Three Hearts and Blue Blood

Hello Gorgeous Soul.

Let’s talk about octopuses.

(Yes, really.)

Octopuses have three hearts and blue blood.
Two hearts pump blood to the gills. One pumps to the rest of the body.

And here’s the wild part: when they swim—when they’re in motion—the main heart actually stops beating.

Let that land.

In order to move forward, they have to stop giving their heart to everything.

Now if that’s not a message for those of us walking the path of purpose, I don’t know what is.

Because so often, we’re trying to move toward our dreams, our dharma, our next right season—

While still giving our full heart to every obligation, every client, every idea, every relationship, every old version of ourselves that’s tugging at our sleeve.

And then we wonder why we feel stuck.
Or heavy.
Or like we’re paddling in circles.

Sometimes movement requires a pause.
A redirection of the heart.

Not because you don’t care, but because care has a cost—and not every part of your life gets to come with you at full volume.

And I think in business—especially if you’re a coach, healer, creative, space-holder—the line between being generous and being drained gets blurry fast.
Because we care.
Because we’re intuitive.
Because we know how to show up fully.

But just like the octopus, that kind of presence can’t be sustained at the same rate across everything.

When it’s time to swim—to create, to launch, to grow—you have to conserve the heart you’ve been giving to everyone else.

You have to reorient.

Now I want to offer this as both a reminder and a permission slip.

You do not have to show up at 100% everywhere in order to be in alignment with your purpose.

In fact, alignment sometimes requires pulling back.

Letting one part of your rhythm go quiet so another part can move forward.

This could look like:

  • Saying no to a client who would’ve been a “yes” six months ago

  • Delaying a launch that no longer fits your energy

  • Shifting your marketing to feel more like invitation than performance

  • Or even letting something go entirely—not out of failure, but out of honesty

There’s this myth in entrepreneurship that says your business only works if you’re always working.

But I think the deeper truth is: your business works best when it reflects your real rhythm.

And sometimes, that rhythm means swimming without giving your whole heart to everything at once.

Also—can we just name how weird and brilliant octopuses are?

Three hearts. Blue blood. They can taste with their skin. Camouflage instantly. Solve puzzles.

They are weird and efficient.

And that, too, is a message.

In a world that pushes us to conform, to polish, to systematize our personalities…

The ones who thrive are often the ones who let themselves be fully strange, fully alive, and fully themselves.

So as you move toward your next vision or season or creative burst—

Ask yourself:

  • What am I still giving my heart to that no longer fits?

  • What might happen if I let myself be a little more efficient—and a little more weird?

That’s it!
